I am familiar with the story. Unfortunately I would argue we are not only blind but also suffering from neurological problems that impair our sensation of touching in different ways, but because we are trapped in our own bodies, we have no way of knowing how anyone else's body is working. Whatever we might or might not be in contact with, we are unable to verify it independently.

That's just my piece of the elephant, or whatever, or my piece of nothing, if it's a figment of some collective imagination. Which would suit me, because my part feels just like nothing.
