Knowing by observation of factual material is a base level of "knowing." There is general academic agreement about what qualifies as a "real" observation and what does not. Higher levels of knowing involve application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation (see, "Bloom's Taxonomy of Knowledge"). Of course you can get all spiritual and start calling it "so-called observations." Fine with me, I figure the whole physical universe to be somewhat illusional anyway. So pick any starting point you want to define what is "really" anything. For example, Bill Clinton really is a liar.
