I'm probably more clownish than some -- I don't know where to find the closing futures price.

After hours I had always compared where the index closed with the then current futures price. I guess that leaves out premium but seems like it gives me a pretty good idea on what is being indicated by the futures -- isn't this good enough, since I am not trading the futures?

Also, besides a snapshot of sentiment right after the close or right before the open -- unless you trade futures during those sessions or hold a position overnight -- of what practical use are those prices? The volume is much smaller in those sessions, right?
