Dear Mani:

You must not have run into any users that do all the wrong things to their systems. They run them in dusty and dirty environment. They run the in small closets with no airflow. The run them in unconditioned environments. Most of them care little of the weight of a box, in fact more than one wanted it to be heavy so it is not stolen (if a system, weighs 4-500 pounds, enterprising thieves almost always opt for lighter things like notebooks, tools, and stereos).

Mani, engineers design for worst case because some dumb fool of a user will find a worse one and blame you for it not working. Besides, all systems are designed with some margin. Mostly because of things they cannot control and the one ticked off customer may be the very wrong one, that makes all see it as your POS system. Returns are expensive in more than one way.

I can make an environment that will force trottling in a P4, but not its competitor.

Pete
