"does cast doubt onto their being aggressively snooty in their customer relations"

Big doubt. It seems to me that qcom bends over backwards to try to please their customers. That's why nearly every month they announce something out of the blue that totally surprises me. Just think about HDR and BREW. All the pundits and service providers are questioning what applications are going to drive 3G and what standard are they going to use. So what does qcom do, they come up with BREW, to help developers cut out all the software OS nightmare BS and write programs with easy. All you have to do is listen to Sulpuzio. It's all pretty simple, all qcom wants is to promote cdma. By doing that they sell chips and get royalties. They'll do whatever the customer wants as long as they get to sell chips and get royalties. Remember Sulpuzio pulling out the Japanese kareoke phone at the shareholders meeting. He told the shareholders in San D. that it might not be what American customers wanted, but it's what the Japanese want and the providers (forgot which one, think KDDI) had asked for it. So Qcom gave them what they wanted. That's the beauty of qcom they go where the money is. If the customer wants high data rate, they give them HDR. If they want mp3, they got it, they want GPS, they got SnappyTrac. As long as qcom gets to sell chips and get royalties they will and have done everything to please their customers. Remember Sulpuzio saying at the shareholders meeting that they have never lost a customer.
