Hi Amy, < Margin and its evils >

Being on Margin can create and wipe out fortunes. Years ago, I also suffered when I made a down payment for a house by borrowing against stock, and the stock went the wrong way. There is a lot of unhappy people in Silicon Valley. But the median hosing prices are still 10-20 percent higher than a year ago because of the low unemployment and higher salaries. However, high priced mansions are not selling because of the stock meltdown.

Right now I am sure that a lot of fortunes have been vaporized during the last twelve months. The amount some of my friends lost is staggering. I have lost a huge sum also, except I always keep a significant portion of my net worth in a safe haven like municipal bonds. This will leave me financially comfortable even if the present economic and stock market problems snowball into something far worse.

However on a positive note, the Cisco and Intel earnings uncertainty are behind us. The bulls and the optimists have enough ammunition to ignite a rally. Let us hope that the market bottom is passed, and we are ready for a change in the the market outlook.
