Intel (INTC:Nasdaq - news) was down 4.2% in preopen Island trading. The chipmaking giant is scheduled to report earnings after the close.

Over the weekend, Intel cut prices on its new Pentium 4 chip, raising concerns that it won't make the profit margins it needs to meet 2001 earnings-per-share estimates.

Intel today also unveiled a fast digital signal processor chip for wireless devices, designed jointly with Analog Devices (ADI:NYSE - news).
