Fin,

I doubt it as more SSE2 optimized software becomes available.

Which apps can take advantage of SSE2? Which commercial compiler can take advantage of SSE2?

Why buy a P4 now when they will have P4/DDR systems for half the price next year?

RE:"yes but will it run most benchmarks slower than Athlon in a year?"

Ever heard of sledgehammer? Clawhammer?

Re: The Pentium ran 16-bit code slower than the 486 did too

But at the time of its release, 32 bit code had already been mainstream in windows, office, and all compilers for more than a year - it was only a few older apps that suffered. Pentium Pro was a srcreamer on mainstream, current applications - twice as fast as a pentium.

P4 is pathetic on old code, poor on current mainstream code, and almost as fast as the processor it is replacing on much future code.

P4 is a true disaster.

Confirmation of that will appear after the bell, today. How much earnings growth do you expect in this, the first quarter of P4's ramp? How much earnings growth will be forecasted for next quarter, as the P4 get to even higher volume?
