Jason, thanks for pointing out the opportunities for SNDK. I was expressing frustration for Kodak for not having foresight and being the first out there to dominate the industry with a working product before the competition. They used to do it regularly. The recording industry made the same fatal error by not embracing encoded music developers like N2K Encoded Music [bought by Liquid Audio]. . . early on when the Napster developer was still playing video games. Where was their foresight?

So the statement I am trying to make has more to do with short-sighted CEOs. . . or mistaken belief that progressing technology might just be a fad. . . and go away. . .instead of embracing the technology we do have and racing to be the leader and the standard in the industry.

Your example is a good one. Digital cameras have several media formats, which actually hinder their sales. Prudent consumers will wait to see which format becomes the standard before delving into this technology.

Racing to set the standard is good. But you won't set the standard if you arrive to market when a half dozen other companies do, or if your technology is priced too high for the market.

Then again. .. there are as many products as their are demands.

I prefer using firewire to blow the data from my handheld devices and into my notebook PC. So I would rather the devices have either RAM or harddrives, but not removable media. But I could fully appreciate someone who does not have a portable device to download to, who might prefer removable media instead.

I still blame "lack of vision" for fabulous companies like Eastman Kodak failing to establish itself as the clear leader in digital photography.
