The only apples for apples comparison was i815 vs. i820.

That's not really apples to apples as the i820 chipset couldn't even begin to use the bandwidth of the RDRAM. It seems very clear to me that there was one and only one purpose for the i820 chipset - get RDRAM into the market and get it's price down to pave the way for the P4 launch... which it did...

Oh yeah, and I love my i815 1GHz P3 system as well, it really snorts on SETI.... :-)
