it is comforting to know that we have choices beyond those which are dollar determined should a very bearish scenario play out.

I agree, it is nice to have some choices in life.

Doug, I've put on the bull horns and took off the old beard so put me firmly in the bull column. No ifs, ands or buts. The economy isn't falling off a cliff (although we might already be in a recession--I'll get back to you in about a year when economists let us know officially); the Fed's got the spigot wide open and retroactive, more front-loaded tax cuts will set the stage for a rebound in '02. While I can't say with any conviction where earnings will be next year, I'm convinced that with easy comps and an improving economy that the rate of earnings growth will be supportive of higher equity prices.
