There is a need for fables and I think many of us could not face the day without myths or booze or pills or....

This is very true. Myths can instruct, inspire, and fortify.

On the other hand, they can embitter, terrorize, and shatter the human spirit. Original sin is the ugliest concept ever conceived; eternal torture as an expression of either love, justice, or anything else--a close second.

Imagining possibilities in this vast universe which is our home is delightful. Imagining cruel and ugly possibilities is simply an expression of cruelty and ugliness.

Clearly, many people still have a need to imagine some form of supernatural being that considers them personally to be the be all and end all of what is essential. It is unfortunate that what one imagines is what one is...

Now, I will play some tennis. I will catch up on the latest deaths in the M. East later...

Christians who pointed to the Jesus myths and disobeyed their Roman masters
The Romans allowed a variety of religions, including Christianity. It was other disagreeable traits, such as condeming others and desicrating other religious sites, that got the early Christains in trouble.
