you may get an error message via the dos prompt... something about 16-bit apps as opposed to 32-bit apps.

but try it if you wish

remember pw's lengthy post on the different flavors of DOS?

this is why the symantec instructions lay it out the way they have

Windows Me doesn't include Real Mode DOS, so it's impossible to boot the system into DOS mode or reboot the system into DOS mode. You can, however, use a Windows Me boot disk to boot into a command prompt. There are several downloads that enable a dos boot as well. If defrag in safe mode works for you, I'd just do it that way. You can lower your Norton Defrag alert % so it won't get triggered as often.
