Same Tower Revenue Growth of 39%

CARY, N.C., April 17 /PRNewswire/ --
SpectraSite Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: SITE) today reported that it added 952
towers in the first quarter, increasing the number of towers owned by 19% to
5,982. Of the 952 towers added, 251 were newly built and 701 were acquired
from wireless carriers, including 632 from SBC. The Company added 500 new
colocation tenant leases, which equates to an annualized rate of 0.40 new

The average monthly rent for these new tenants was $1,515, a slight
increase from the fourth quarter.
Steve Clark, President and CEO of SpectraSite, stated, "It was a very
productive first quarter for SpectraSite. We are pleased that we were able to
maintain a .40 lease-up rate during a period of rapid growth of our tower
portfolio. The quality of our tenants remains high and we continue to lead
the industry with an average broadband monthly lease rate of $1,709.
Furthermore, 95% of leasing revenue added during this period came from
established wireless carriers. We also lead the industry for same tower
revenue growth which, based on trailing twelve months revenue on the 3,070
towers the Company owned as of March 31, 2000, was 39%.
Mr. Clark also noted that the SBC integration is progressing smoothly and
the Company continues to rapidly add SBC towers to its portfolio. At the end
of the first quarter the Company had acquired a total of 1,371 SBC towers,
which is ahead of schedule, and expects to acquire an additional 1,879 SBC
