I agree, it's not semantics, it's a completely different world view than classical economics. I am just a fan of Adam Smith, myself.

I knew a lot of gold bugs back in the 1970-1980's. A big name gold bug at the time - James Blanchard - used to have annual conventions in New Orleans, and I used to attend because a guy I worked for got me free passes. I thought they were whacky then and I think they are whacky now. Not because they are stupid, but because they are simplistic.

Gold backed money is no panacea. You just trade one set of problems for another. Whenever government gets involved, the free market goes out the window. Central banking and centralized government go together like a pimp and a whore. Don't ask me which is which.-g-
