Re: AMD 760MP with Dual 1.4 Palaminos

Cool - Thanks for the heads up, Milo.

Can someone remind me what the highest speed Intel SMP server runs at? And how much they (used to) sell for?

I can't quite recall....

:-)

Dan

Milo Moron - re: "The 3DBOXX R1 series of workstations for Windows 2000, Windows NT or Linux will ship in June"

That's JUNE, Milo - June - several months away.

Plenty of time for AMD to slip another few months.

By the way - is the famous maker of White Boxx servers?

Quite a big name for AMD to snag !

Oh yeat - re: "Options include a 4U rackmount kit and second 400W power supply"

4U and and extra 400 Watt Power supply - looks like the PaloMeatHead is REAL LOW power !

Milo Moron - Re: 'BOXX Technologies Introduces New 3DBOXX R1 Series of Workstations Based on AMD Athlon Processors at NAB 2001"

Looks like AMD screwed up AGAIN - BOXX did NOT demo and dual AMD CPU servers.

But the DID demo a server based on Dual Intel FOSTER CPUs !

Hah !!!

Boxx fails to show AMD 762MP box

Intel unwisely shows its offerings

By a staff writer (cough), 29 April 2001 17.40 BST

MANY THANKS TO READER Peter S who couldn't get a pic of the dual Athlon shown at the Boxx stand at NAB in Vegas last week, presumably because AMD wasn't allowing Boxxtech to show it.

He did, however. somehow manage to get the spec of the 762MP chipset that the baby was using and also spotted a dual P4 1.7GHz with a very noisy fan at the show.

Said Peter, the AMD 762 chipset will support up to 4GB of 266MHz DDR, four SIMM slots, 4x AGP Pro 50 graphics, dual channel Ultra 160 SCSI, dual channel Ultra DMA 100 IDE, five 64/33MHz PCI slots, uses a 400 watt power supply, two fans, and has two 10/100 Ethernet boards built in.

So that's pretty impressive then. Wonder how much this lot will set us back? Boxxtech is here.

This is the dual P4 Foster shown at NAB, again courtesy of Peter S. Although too small to see, the legend on the label above the screen confirms that the Intel box is running two dual Foster 1.7GHz chipolatas.
