When I used to drive my daughter to school (before she could drive), I would cut through the grounds of Monsanto. Every morning we would see a guy riding one of these - non-motorized. He wore a helmet and his vehicle bore a high pole with a little flag on it. It looked like so much fun. He is still there.

Thank you for your well considered response. I admit that I was being a little facetious with my question. I have been bloodied on numerous occasions on my mountain bike.
I have never ridden a recumbent (other than stationary), but I know many owners swear by them. I see very few. Did you ride RAGBRAI on the recumbent?
