Dear J_F, since you have mentioned cheap satellite launches I assume that you are interested the the technology of launching and in my career as an Engineer I've that the opportunity to work two aspects of launching that would be called to stop the launch and to make safe the launch.

In the stopping I worked on this program. TO MAKE IT CHEAP.
To demonstrate a new and more efficient way of evaluating large area
high resolution radar imagery an Xwindow based display demonstration
was created.

In the making safe the launch
On January 28, 1986, at 11:38, Mr. Watson was at lunch with a group of
students. The students were taking a course authored by Mr. Watson on
the use of Computer Aided Schematic capture and netlist database
generation. In the restaurant the TV station broke to live coverage of the the
launch of STS Challenger. Challenger exploded 73 seconds after takeoff.
Television film footage captured the tragic explosion and its aftermath, as
smoke trailed out of the craft and it fell to the ocean. All seven crew
members died due to a faulty "O-ring" seal failed in the solid-fuel rocket
on the shuttle's right side.

To see some really cool imagery that I worked on producing watman.com I'm very proud of the fact that image I originally presented have found their way to other public sites.

"Clinton continued the technology sales started by Bush.....did you object then?"

I know of no instances where Bush's largest political donor (or ANY political donor) was given special consideration when selling sensitive technology to the Chinese. Do you? If so please let me know because I wouldn't like that either. Also, you may be right that it was satellite technology, but I believe the gain the Chinese could have gotten from it would be more accurate missiles. Doesn't matter so much what the technology was but it does matter that Clinton went around the normal procedures to get something done for his largest political donor.

You are also right that I get too testy at times. Sorry if you are offended. I try to ask questions to that are hard to justify when answered truthfully. Problem is I just get another "they all do it" rationalization. Similar to "Clinton continued the technology sales started by Bush"
