One thing regarding "book value". Many companies have tremendous amounts of "Goodwill" and other intangibles on their Asset side, thus inflating the "book value" of their companies.

Pretty much, when a company takes over another company, they should write off all GW that Q and move forward. Enough of writing off GW over a series of years.

Did you see MOT? They are now reporting "operating earnings" like their competition. By reporting "operating earnings", they just barely met expectations...
