I received the new hard drive from Dell today (it was overnighted!
The tech told me to expect it Mon. or Tues. of next week) then
discovered that the old one was in fact 45 GB but was configured
wrong by whoever built my PC at Dell. The caps (are they called
jumpers?) weren't placed for primary master they were configured
for something called "32 clip". I talked to 4 different techs about
being shipped the wrong hard drive and none of them asked me to
check the configuration on the hard drive. I reset my old hard drive
to primary master then reinstalled it. I went into Setup which
showed the hard drive to be 44.something gigs but when I checked
it's properties in My Computer 31.4GB was still showing. I called and
asked Dell what I should do. The tech told me to go ahead and
use the new hard drive. I considered keeping the old ond too but
I don't need a 2nd hard drive to be 45GB. If I do get a 2nd hard
drive I'd just use it for images of my primary drive and for Windows Me.
I'd use Win 98 on the primary drive.
I asked Dell about using Win 98 instead of SE and was told that they
wouldn't support Win 98 on my machine and that if I needed replacemnet
hardware I had to run diagnostics from ME before they'd replace anything.
For my use ME is just an unstable memory hog so keeping it on a small
2nd hard drive seems like a good idea. Oh, they also told me they would
not support a petitioned hard drive with Me on one petition and Win 98 on
the other.
I've had a bad PC month but it's great to finally have everything working just
right. If you weren't keeping score Dell replaced my RAM, motherboard, CPU
and hard drive. It turned out the original RAM wasn't bad and the original hard
drive might not be either but that's not my problem any more.

Mark,
If you didn't get Flooded yet it should come tomorrow or Monday.
