Tekelec Solutions Support Continued Verizon Network Expansion
MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2001-- Tekelec (Nasdaq: TKLC - news) today announced an order from Verizon Network Services for a pair of EAGLE® signal transfer points (STPs) with local number portability (LNP) capability.

The EAGLE STPs will be deployed in the Verizon's domestic wireline telecommunications network, which provides national SS7 signaling and LNP capability to 33 million households in 67 of the top 100 U.S. markets.

In 1998, the company (then Bell Atlantic) was the first service provider in the world to deploy LNP in its network. The company selected Tekelec's LNP solution. ``We are extremely pleased that an industry leader and innovator like Verizon continues to choose our field-proven EAGLE platform and LNP solution to expand its network,'' commented Mike Margolis, president and CEO, Tekelec. The scalability of Tekelec's EAGLE platform makes it a perfect solution for Verizon as it aggressively grows its networks to deliver a full range of advanced products and services to its customers.``

Margolis added, ``Verizon is building a global network to provide data, voice, and internet solutions to customers around the world. Our EAGLE STP and LNP solutions provide the reliable call control and value-added services that will allow Verizon to provide its customers with the best service in the industry.''

The Tekelec EAGLE STP is the world's first fully distributed, packet-based STP, providing the highest level of reliability and network security in the industry. The platform scales from 850 to more than 60,000 transactions per second. The EAGLE platform leads the market with more than 700 systems installed in telecommunications networks worldwide. EAGLE LNP is the most widely selected LNP solution. Deployed on the EAGLE STP platform, it provides the industry's highest performance, capacity and LNP download rates, supporting up to 48 million ported numbers.

Tekelec Announces Distribution Agreement With Alcatel
biz.yahoo.com
Company to Integrate Alcatel 7470 MSP as Media Gateway in Its Packet-Based Switching Solution
MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 2001--Tekelec (Nasdaq: TKLC - news) today announced it has entered into a distribution agreement with Alcatel, a global leader in the design and delivery of integrated end-to-end voice and data networking solutions.

Under the terms of the agreement, Tekelec will act as a value-added reseller for the Alcatel 7470 Multiservice Platform (MSP), an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM)-based media gateway.

Tekelec will provide a variety of end-to-end packet telephony solutions by interworking its VXi(TM) Media Gateway Controller (MGC) family of softswitches with the Alcatel 7470. Tekelec's first application, distributed packet tandem, allows carriers to migrate seamlessly to a converged voice and data architecture while economically expanding network capacity. It couples the VXi MGC with Alcatel 7470s, acting as trunking gateways to Class 5 switches, to replace the functionality of a circuit-based Class 4 toll or tandem switch. The VXi MGC uses UNI 4.0 protocol to interface with the 7470.

Paul Miller, Tekelec's vice president of Packet Telephony, commented, ``We are committed to creating multivendor packet networks which encourage competition and allow our customers to truly realize the cost and innovation benefits of the new network architecture. Agreements with industry leaders like Alcatel enable us to deliver best-in-breed, carrier-grade switching solutions for next-generation networks.''

``The Alcatel 7470 MSP, already widely deployed in voice-over-packet applications with service providers around the globe, is an ideal media gateway for next-generation voice networks,'' said Mark Shannon, director, Voice Gateway Product Management at Alcatel. ``Alcatel is committed to a standards-based, open systems approach to next-generation telephony. This agreement with Tekelec helps service providers and carriers gain a competitive advantage by bringing the latest technology and services to market quickly and economically.''
