You miss the point. The Chinese government can make absurd statesments about this incident because Bush has no credibility, zero - zilch. Even if Bush or his spokesman give a precise account the whole world and half of America won't believe him. Even the Powell doctrine of impotence in the face of flexibility came up short. The Chinese knew that the U.S. was not going to war over the airplane and Powell allows no alternative but to bend over and chant Thank you comrade, may I have another? (in diplomatic Chinese of course).
