If a position is going against me, I won't add until the add raises my ave. price by 10%+. I'm more inclined to add to winning positions, even though it lowers my average, than to add to losers. So, in your example, if I'm 30% at 30 I'll add 10-15% more at 36-37. This assumes it is a fundamental short, because on a technical short I'd already be stopped out.
