SEBL--Siebel Systems Reports Revenue and Earnings for the Quarter Ended March 31, 2001
Q1 2001 Revenues Increase 84 Percent over Q1 2000
SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 18, 2001--Siebel Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:SEBL - news), the world's leading provider of eBusiness applications software, today announced results for the quarter ended March 31, 2001.

Revenues for the first quarter of 2001 were $588.7 million, compared to $319.7 million for the same period in 2000, an increase of 84 percent. Net income was $76.9 million, or $0.15 per share, compared with pro-forma net income of $35.3 million, or $0.07 per share, for the first quarter of 2000, representing increases of 118 percent and 114 percent, respectively.

Revenues from license fees for the first quarter of 2001 were $335.1 million, compared to $195.5 million for the same period in 2000, an increase of 71 percent. Revenues from maintenance, consulting, and other services were $253.6 million, compared to $124.2 million for the same period in 2000, an increase of 104 percent.

The company's cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments were $1.337 billion at March 31, 2001, an increase of $185 million from December 31, 2000.

Pro-forma net income for the first quarter of 2000 excludes accretion of mandatorily redeemable preferred stock of OpenSite Technologies, Inc. (acquired by Siebel Systems in May 2000). Net loss and net loss per share for the first quarter of 2000, including accretion of mandatorily redeemable preferred stock, was ($41.7) million and ($0.10), respectively.

New Customer Engagements

AT&T Wireless Services, Inc.: The third-largest wireless carrier in the U.S. and operator of one of the largest digital wireless networks in North America selected Siebel eBusiness Applications to enhance and integrate its customer-facing operations. AT&T Wireless' sales and marketing professionals will use Siebel eCommunications, Siebel Call Center, Siebel Marketing, Siebel Wireless, Siebel eCustomer, and Siebel eChannel to optimize customer relations and improve service across multiple geographies and time zones.

DirecTV Operations, Inc.: The leading U.S. digital satellite television service, with more than 9.5 million customers, standardized on Siebel eBusiness Applications to integrate its sales, marketing, and service operations across all communication channels, including call centers, email, and the Web. Siebel eBusiness Applications will enable DirecTV business users to gain a complete view of their customers, conduct highly personalized marketing and sales campaigns, and ensure consistent, world-class customer service.

Existing Customers Expanded Their Siebel eBusiness Applications
Deployments

IBM Corporation: Following the success of its initial implementation of Siebel eBusiness Applications, IBM purchased more than 26,000 additional user licenses in the first quarter of 2001. This new order expands IBM's previous purchase of Siebel eBusiness Applications for 55,000 internal users, 30,000 partners, and all of its customers over the Web. IBM's global implementation of Siebel eBusiness Applications spans multiple channels and integrates sales, marketing, and customer service in one of the world's largest deployments of enterprise software.

Dresdner Bank AG: Dresdner Bank expanded its use of Siebel eBusiness Applications across its Retail Banking Division, one of Europe's leading banking groups serving 4.2 million customers. Dresdner Bank will deploy Siebel eFinance across multiple channels, ensuring a consistent, personalized banking experience for its customers, whether they choose to do their banking at branch offices, via the Internet, or by telephone.

Washington Mutual: Expanding on the successful implementation of Siebel eBusiness Applications in its Financial Services group, Washington Mutual will deploy Siebel eFinance to thousands of additional users who manage sales and service in its Mortgage and Consumer Banking contact centers.
