japan and usa economies are not comparable...different basis, usa is a consuming service based economy, japan is a savings, production based economy.

your view is short sighted, step back and take a historical view of about thirty years....are you or is the overall economy better off now then in 1973...? equity pricing always lead the true economy both down and up....

p.s...the euro is not the best currency to compare with, especially since many of the member nations have a bit of disdain for it....and doesn't the euro still convert to various member currencies at different multipliers? at the moment it's a bit of a bastard currency...
