Actually, history does not repeat itself in any detail, though there are some patterns which may emerge. Do you live equally in expectation of the re- establishment of the Ancien Regime? Will the thrones of France and the Holy Roman Empire be restored? Will the parliaments of Britain and Spain be overthrown? Are you so sure that "history repeats itself" that you anticipate the resumption of the trans- Atlantic slave trade? Are we doomed to another Civil War? What is the basis for your sense of doom?
