Well, three things just real quick. 1. Thanks for the complements; 2. I learned long ago that I'm better at calling turns in the economy than I am the stock market, and I believe this is the beginning of the end of the recession. Predicting that this or that will happen in the market tommorow is not for me. I try to identify longer-term trends.
I may disagree a little with Greg from time to time, but he knows a lot more about the inner workings of trading stocks than I do.
3. On losing experienced people: Well, you're right, at least that's often the case.
But my favorite story is from, I think, 1993, when Boeing laid off thousands of "overpaid" engineers. Then Boeing bought McDonnell Douglas, and told McDonnell's engineers they had to move to Seattle.
Great corporate strategy, right? Just one problem. Most of McDonnell's engineers enjoyed living in St. Louis, so a lot of them found other jobs there instead of moving to Seattle.
Oops.
