All 3 instances of command.com produce the same result. I renamed config.sys & autoexec.bat, still the same behavior. Dos Prompt does work in safe mode. Adding the command 'format a:' to the end of the autoexec.bat, I saw no drive activity. ( before I canned the autoexec altogether ) 'Alt-enter' does nothing detectable. The monitor does "click" as if it's switching modes when this happens, so your idea that it's going into grapics modes is plausible, but I can't see what's forcing that to happen. That's about my limit of reboots in one evening, thanks for trying.
