I said before the election if the Dow was below 10000 that Bush would be elected. It was just barely above so it was close.
The Dow represents the hopes, spending, liquidity of the general population without which the entire
. financial system can collapse. Therefore when the Dow dropped below 10k, Wash and the banks had to act
and will act again if needed. They have at least another full point cut to work with plus the ability to increase
liquidity by other means.
With 60% of money flowing into the tech stock bubbles, Greenspan did the best he could (arguable point) to prevent people wasting their money on non-performing companies. The last few days have demonstrated the Fed does have power , which is going to be very reassuring to investors and to other countries. Hang Seng up agin?
So IMO the bear is under control, but never dead. And as even in good times, one must be very carefull
