Foreign net buying surges. Foreign net buying totaled NT$16.2bn Thursday, including NT$15bn from the mainboard and NT$1.18bn from the Taisdaq market. Foreign investors also set a single day high for foreign investor buying on Thursday. Global investors net bought 83,000 lots of UMC (2303 TT), 53,000 lots of TSMC (2330 TT), 23,000 lots of Winbond (2344 TT) and 11,000 lots of SPIL (2325 TT).

TAIWAN PRESS: Ctrl Bk May Cut Key Interest Rates 12.5 BP
TAIPEI (Dow Jones)--Taiwan's central bank will continue monitoring the impact of U.S. rates cuts on the global market and may cut its key interest rates by 12.5 basis points if necessary, the Economic Daily News reported Friday, quoting unidentified central bank sources. Further observation is needed before deciding whether to cut rates further, the sources said, referring to the discount and accommodations rates.
