Hi Frank,

U-NII rules limit antenna gain to 6dB, unlike ISM rules, so .11a outdoors will have problems delivering the 64QAM (48Mbps and 54Mbps) services period. 16QAM (24Mbps and 36Mbps) probably will not be reliable at one mile, but 4QAM (12Mbps and 18Mbps) should be a definite improvement over 802.11b services.
