Technically, it would not be invalid until it dipped below the low of the 3. (or is it the high of the 1?) Usually it's too late for a good trade by that point. I go more by feel for 4's. Also, you can always short what looks like it could be a 4 (that were we are now) and if it turns out to be the other sceanrio (the C down one in this case), then all the better for you. This post refers to these scenarios, shorting the 4 leg in blue is also great if it turns out to be the red C: geocities.com
