within a few minutes of my post, the stock shot up and is now in the money. i feel the problem directly

In the case of stocks held in street name, you don't even have pretty engraved certificates to gaze at. My son and I went through an intensive period of stamp collecting when he was young. We frequented numerous stamp shops, auctions, and shows, and spent high quality hours in the evenings organizing our collection and admiring our acquisitions. After a while it became apparent that 95% of the stamp dealers were collectors who had acquired so much merchandise that they were buried (both in stamps and financially) and had to choose between selling or buying larger quarters to house their immense collections. It was very rare to find one of this breed who was pleased at the prospect of parting with one of their beauties, and they only let you examine their stock grudgingly. I still have the stamp collection, and once in a blue moon I'll browse through the books stuffed with carefully chosen and beloved stamps, pausing to sigh when I come upon the Penny Black or Baby Zep. I guess I should have the collection appraised and sell it for a nice profit, but I don't know if I could bear the thought of parting with the stamps for various reasons... uf
