DAK: That is the best post I've seen you make in awhile. You are so right about that.

The moral malaise from obsessive materialism has consumed the US.
Other countries look at us in dismay and wonder where the joy of life goes.
Even our sports are more about winning/betting wins than the joy of the game.
And that goes right down to grade school level.

Unfortunately this habit is not easily cured in a generation. It is an attribute of human nature that must be tempered and I wonder if an economic downturn is going to abruptly reverse it's course.

llcf...have you ever asked your dad if his quality of life is better now then thirty years ago?

i grew up in a dense ethnic urban area.......not many remained static, they worked and moved on, i know of no one that feels they currently have a lesser quality of life....

how do you measure quality of life? better home, more conveniences, added leisure? many points to consider but again, i know not a sole who yearns for days of yore...
