If for no other reason than because the route to fight for a belt is now totally at the whim of promoters and $.

I use the example of Iron Mike, a fighter who I like. He the number one WBA challenger to Lewis. How did he get there fighting Savarese, Francis, and Norris? His only fights against top 10 contenders in his recent belt run included Botha and Golota. As I see it, he should be fighting Donald, Johnson, and/or Whitaker for the slot to fight Lewis.

And, guys who duck other fighters should lose their berth for a prescribed period or be reduced to a prescribed ranking.

It seems to work well until guys get into the top 10 - an example being the recent Oquendo vs. Etienne - which is the same as saying, it works well until any worthwhile $ comes along. There needs to be a planned, regulated ranking, elimination, and rule organization that spells out exactly what, and how, the game progresses to the top spots.
