Wow, that's freaky, Mrs. Peel!

I'll tell you...I was all full of P&V at that time, and while 2 or 3 times since then (but not in the last 5 years) I've gotten into minor physical scuffles - never initiated by me, I hasten to add - that one taught me that sometimes it's just not worth being "right." Especially when you're alone, in someone else's country, and there are three or so people determined to "make" you wrong. Things could have gone far worse than they did.

I've always known how to walk away, but now I walk away even in situations where I used to say, "this is worth standing fast over." What's the use?

I agree that it's funny how you react. My attitude was more along the lines of someone who'd lost their wallet than someone who'd gotten the crap kicked out of them - like, "Oh, dammit. Welp, gotta get myself looked at." I've reacted far worse from tackles in rugby that I thought were cheap or from bad grades on academic assignments I'd worked really hard on, LOL.
