Actually I have one daughter and one son. I think the intensity of my thoughts toward my daughter in that critical moment stemmed from the ongoing struggle we were having at the time. Both of my kids live far from me now and I can always "tell" if there is a serious problem, mentally I still "carry" them with me, as I always have.

>>That said, other things...like alcohol, peer pressure, a sense of inflated confidence, or perhaps just failure to recognize the differences between a "worthy" situation in one place and an "unworthy" one elsewhere...lead to the kind of stomping which was graciously administered to me that day. <<

It would have been helpful to have someone there by you saying "Run, Forrest, Run!!!"

When we were kids my brother and I used to fight and skirmish, and RUN from trouble all the time. I learned VERY early about knowing when to run and when to fight.

I kid you not, when I was in KINDERGARTEN, I got into a playground fight with this oversized 2nd grader, and he actually cut me with his pocketknife!(back in the days before metal detectors) I'll never forget that. I tried to take it away from him, and he grabbed my hand with his other hand and started closing the blade on my finger. I was kicking him, screaming..... finally the teacher came running out to separate us.

He didn't even get sent home from school....I remember his name too. I wonder if he's still around, maybe I should go look him up.... LOL!
