When you start with an empty glass and start adding in liquid, the initial % gain is infinity, it went from nothing to something. You mention the 50% to 100% gains on the 'love' stocks. What you haven't mentioned is that they have fallen, in some cases, 90% or more. For a stock to go up 100% after dropping 90%, well, I don't know how many people look at these situations as 100% gains, more likely they say, the 90% drop is now an 82% (or so) drop.

Sure, if you were sitting in all cash, got in on April 4th and bought like there was no tomorrow, you're up a huge % amount. How many people or institutions can say this is how they timed the market?
