Alan Wan is mixing his metaphors a bit equating "shipments" with "sales". If you are clearing inventory in Q1 after the seasonal Q4 certainly you will ship less. I remember CPQ stating this before when they were unstuffing the channel. Nevertheless, the trend is clear and Dell and Dellheads have a right to celebrate and sooner the mantle passes the better it is for Compaq. But the real issue is that the PC market, particularly the consumer market, is not as weak as it would appear from IDC and Dataquest's inadequate statistical methods.
