The author also makes a stupid comparison, in that $5 Billion contract to Lucent was for hardware that will actually do something, while the $20 Billion Vodaphone pissed away in spectrum auctions will earn them Bupkis until they have hardware to utilize it.

<<What type of boring but useful apps could these
be? How about, for starters, a family-wide,
one-price plan that ties Mom, Dad, and the kids
into a secure wireless system?>>

While the whole article is not entirely cogent, this seems like a saleable idea that could entice subscribers. Doesn't involve surfing the net or playing games, but coupled with GPS could be highly desirable for many families and extended families. Throw in the other 3G goodies as a bonus, or tailor services to fit different pricing plans.

Re : description of Rich Santalesa / PDA & Wireless World --

What perhaps should have been said (?) :

"Rich Santalesa is the chief analyst at PDA & Wireless World, an editorial, network, and wireless analysis firm based in the corner of Rich Santalesa's small one-bedroom apartment in New York.

PDA & Wireless World has an audited subscription base in excess of 1 (Rich's Mom)."

(Just kidding).
