I think you are correct about the effect that Y2K spending had on the market in 98 and 99. This seems to be something that many people have forgotten. The amount of money spent on Y2K equipment upgrades was huge.

I do know of companies that lease computers and network equipment on the 36 month plan. I think that 18 months is probably on the low end of the upgrade time frame. I think that many more companies would fall into the 24-36 month time frame for upgrades.

What we need is for someone to declare that we are going to skip the years of 2001-9998 and next year will be 9999 and we'll jump to a Y10K crisis.
