The skipping the last few driver hint was to allow you to boot to Windows normally instead of safe mode. If you skipped just the Symantec drivers, and the defrag worked as desired, you'd now know the problem was with Symantec stuff and not Windows. Knowing this, you'd simply un-install Symantec software and re-install it. With luck, this would cure your defrag problems. Of course, you could remove and replace Symantec stuff anyway, since it's not a big job at all.
