The HFC is the cheapest, at $1,907 per home. Second is -- you guessed it -- fiber, at $2,385 per home (vs. $2,484 for DSL).

SBC said its data, wireless and long distance businesses performed
strongly during the first quarter. Data revenue climbed 39.9%, and the
company netted 854,000 subscribers at Cingular. The company added
2.2 million long-distance lines in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas, and
187,000 new digital subscriber-line customers in the quarter.

SBC said it will continue with its plan to expand broadband capabilities.
Mr. Whitacre said broadband would be the foundation for new services,
and that the company would tie in its long-distance business to
complement its broadband strategy.

According to CC 500 million (out of 12.5B) in capex reduction
comes outside Pronto and others data projects.
So it must be bad news for Lucent, major supplier of voice switches like class 5.
