"The important thing about GX was that it had enough cost advantage to convince Compaq to make the big break. "

Compaq has always looked for a way, off and on, to break from Intel. That is why they headed the ill-fated ACE consortium, and since then it never has taken all that much to get them to try someone else. Which is not to take anything away from the GX, since it could be used in desktops and laptops it had some very compelling qualities.

I suspect that Compaq will be pushing AMD in a big way at their corporate accounts for the same reasons. Considering the survey that was released today about Dell passing Compaq again in market share, they will be looking for something to give them some momentum.
