Thanks, tc, that was the open sesame. I remembered when clicking on My Computer that I had known this perfectly well at some earlier point but lost it. Anxiety, I think.

Both the Favorites floppy and the Contacts one contain the information they're supposed to, fortunately.

There isn't any "export" option on the view menu for the Outlook Contacts floppy, but if I ever need this backup, maybe a new install of Outlook would be able to import the information from the floppy.

I am going to look around and see if I could do what hcm1943 did, export to Yahoo em for web-based access. I could always paste the information in an email to myself.

I may still have to defrag in Safe Mode, but I really have learned a LOT during this process.
