But a spokesman for Compaq, which overtook IBM seven years ago to become the world's largest PC vendor, discounted the value of the title today.

"That was the brass ring of the '90s, but it's not the brass ring today in the 21st century," said Archid Currid at the company's Houston headquarters. "Now what's important is emerging technologies, such as wireless, and the enterprise space -- where we are very, very strong."

I would have preferred better, but it still doesn't qualify as "having one's lunch eaten."

JMHO.

Here is a better growth prospect.

cnbc.com

I have been investing in this industry for several years and for those of you that like to trade on the long side, it makes the prospect of a better return. While I do not presently own any Compaq right now, I have traded FLEX, JBL, and GLW which I acquired a few weeks ago. I also like SANM and SLR, which are in the same industry, for their valuation. Today you might have to make the case of looking over the valley, but two weeks ago, some of these stocks were at 50% of today's value. Right now I am all in cash as I think we might be due for a pull-back. The following Barrons article today is also pretty interesting.
