"One of the ironies of the current situation is that, according to Houston and Aberdeen energy bankers Simmons & Company International, the US has to find another 30 trillion cubic feet of gas by 2005, in other words a supply miracle is desperately needed.

The North Slope has that amount of gas, but accessing it could result in oil output dropping. It is a Catch-22 situation.

A stack of new gas-fired power stations are scheduled to start operating next year, but Simmons wants to know where their gas supplies are going to come from and why most are not equipped to burn other fuel, typically oil."
