"Most of the time the environmentalists have been proven right in the end"

I agree that most of the time environmentalists have been proven correct, when successful at getting their ideas implemented. However, they might not have had such a great track record had all of their ideas been embraced without significant criticism. And even some of their ideas have lead to absurd laws, so they are apparently lacking in controlling their own efforts.

For example:

Back in the 50s my father had a huge boulder in our field destroyed. After hauling the chunks of the boulder out of the field, a small pond was left because it would have been too much effort to fill it in. My father figured that by plowing around the pond with the plows always facing the pond it would eventually be filled in. This pond is to this day providing habitat for wetland creatures ranging from nesting waterfowl to muskrats. Now we can never fill this pond in because of the wetland protection laws, even though we were the ones who created this wetland. If we were to do today what my father did in the 50s, we would be compelled to fill the hole in immediately to avoid having the wetland laws permanently dictate the use of this land, as they are now doing.
