Street,

The mine I was working at was the Parachute mine. Probably the largest oil shale mine in the world. It was owned by Arco at the time, later bought by Exxon. Since you are so interested, I will explain what was going on in the mine.

The work I was doing was modeling rubblization to see if enough porosity and permeability could be created by explosives, to allow for in-situ processing.

There have been two methods proposed for oil-shale processing. One is mining and processing in stainless steel vessels. This would be an environmental disaster, and also would have been technologically impossible on a large scale. The other option is processing the rock in-situ. This *might* be possible, but would cause massive ground water contamination and subsidence.

We used ANFO in the mine as our explosive. I became rather familiar with ANFO during that time, enough to know that most of the OKC discussion on this thread is complete nonsense.

Enjoy the day, and get that IQ test. I've got three soccer games to coach this morning. Later.
