I think what you are referring to about GE is PCB contamination in a river in New York or somewhere in the north west. GE says the PCB's are buried under mud and if they have to clean them up it will disturb them and be worse than leaving them alone. The environmental organizations say differently. I have no doubt that if GE could make 500 million profit instead of spending 500 million on the cleanup they would be saying the PCB's must be cleaned up.
